A big welcome to Orange Class!
Miss Watchorn Miss Kmiecik
Class Teacher Teaching Assistant
We are excited to meet all the pupils starting in Cherry Class and are looking forward to a great year of learning. This year the children will learn through six exciting topics. These are:
Autumn Term 1: Magical Me / People who help us
Autumn Term 2: Festival Fun
Spring Term 1: It’s a Wonderful World
Spring Term 2: How does your Garden grow?
Summer Term 1: Traditional Tales
Summer Term 2: Paws, Claws and Whiskers
We learn in a fun and exciting way in Cherry Class and our learning continues both inside and outside of the classroom.
If the first half term we will be focused on establishing routines and encouraging independent skills for the children.
The children will begin our ‘Read, Write Inc’ phonic scheme where they will learn each single letter sound and begin to use these letter sounds in their writing. The children will also be learning to recognise and write their names. Children will be encouraged to mark make and begin to represent letters in words when writing. They will develop their phonics skills through the year and develop their independent reading and writing skills. They will become independent writers where they learn how to write sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
Children will begin to develop their maths skills by learning to count to 10 and beyond and recognise these numbers. They will begin to learn counting strategies too through number rhymes and practical activities. During their year in Apple Class they will learn how to order numbers to twenty, solve problems involving doubling, halving and sharing and understand weight, length, distance, capacity, patterns and time.
Just before the end of Autumn Term 1 children will take home two reading books every week. We would ask parents to send their child’s book bag into school every day so that they can read with an adult at least once per week. We would also encourage parents to read with their child at home as much as possible.
Children will take part in a weekly PE lesson and for the first half term they will just be taking off their shoes and socks and doing PE in bare feet. We would ask that you send in a PE kit after the Christmas break when the children will begin getting themselves changed in their PE kit for their lesson.
