Learning

Please see the Curriculum Grid for Year 3 below for an overview of what your child will be studying this year.

Homework in Year 3 is set on Friday to be handed in the following Tuesday. Children have their own grammar and maths homework books and a slip will be sent home every Friday with the page number and activities to be completed. In addition, children will receive weekly spelling words to practise on Monday to be tested on Friday, and it is expected that their spelling folders will also be handed in. This year we are learning our 4 and 8 times tables. It would be great if you could revise regularly with your child at home.

Developing a daily reading habit is absolutely vital to being successful in Year 3; we expect children to read at home for at least 15 minutes every day and bring in their signed Reading Records. Please help your child to develop this habit.

Uniform

It is important that your child is coming to school in the correct uniform. Uniforms allow for the promotion of a sense of pride, equality among students and is practical for the health and safety of your children. Our uniform policy and guidelines can be found on the school website.

In Year 3, children have two hours of P.E. a week. Please ensure your child has the correct kit in school from Monday to Friday. Students also participate in swimming lessons throughout the year and need to ensure they have the correct swimmers, towels, goggles etc.

Parents and Carers

During the first half of summer term, we are holding a curriculum meeting where we will discuss the detail of your child’s learning this year, including homework expectations, information on our new English program, maths curriculum, swimming information and a more in depth coverage of our curriculum.

And finally…

The Year 3 Team believe that communication is the basis of all successful relationships.

Please feel free to come and discuss any issues or concerns you may have. We really look forward to working with you to ensure that your Year 3 child has a wonderfully successful year at Lionel Primary School.
