Lionel Primary School Uniform Policy

It is our policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school or when taking part in a school-organised event outside of school hours.

Our policy is based on the belief that a school uniform:

  • Promotes a sense of pride in the school
  • Gives a sense of community and belonging
  • Is practical and smart
  • Identifies children with the school
  • Allows a sense of equality amongst all pupils
  • Is practical and designed with health and safety in mind.

We rely on parents/carers to support the school and co-operate with governors and staff by following our uniform policy and sending their children to school correctly dressed. We encourage parents/carers to contact the school it they are unsure about any aspect of the policy or if they are having difficulty in abiding by it for any reason.

Uniform

Children should wear the following items:

  • Lionel Primary logo sweatshirt or cardigan in navy blue.
  • Lionel Primary logo or plain polo shirt in gold.
  • Plain grey school trousers, skirt, shorts or pinafore dress. There should be no branding or trousers with cargo style pockets.
  • Plain black, grey or white socks/tights.
  • Summer dresses in yellow or blue gingham check.

Shoes

Children must wear black shoes for school.  Shoes must be plain black and without logos or coloured soles.

In the summer closed toe sandals may be worn with socks. Sandals should be in plain navy, black or white.

In the winter plain black boots may be worn.

PE Kit

Children from reception to Year 3 change in school for PE and games. They must have kit available, as a separate set of clothes, to change into for PE/games lessons, as follows:

  • Lionel Primary logo white round neck t-shirt.
  • Plain navy shorts.
  • Plain navy tracksuit bottoms (optional).
  • Plimsolls or trainers.

In Years 4,5 & 6 children may wear their PE kit into school on their PE/games lesson days.

Hair and headwear

If hair is long enough, it must be tied back with a simple inconspicuous hair band. Large bows and ornate headbands are not permitted.

Hijabs must be blue, black, yellow or white and should be free of adornments.

Watches, jewellery and nails

Children must not wear SMART watches in school.  If a child comes into school wearing a SMART watch the teacher will keep it safe until a parent comes and collects it.

Children should not wear jewellery to school.  An exception will be made for pierced ears (small studs only may be worn for safety reasons) or if the jewellery is of a religious or medical significance.  Please see your child’s class teacher if this is the case.

Painted nails are not permitted at school.
