Swimming at Lionel

At Lionel all of our pupils will have the opportunity to learn to swim.  This starts from Year 3 onwards.

Our lessons focus on teaching children to:

• swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m
• use a range of strokes effectively
• perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations

Currently we have swimming lessons for all of Year 3 children, all Year 4 children, our centre children in these year groups. We also have additional lessons in the summer term for our Year 6 children who are unable to swim 25m. 

Children who left Lionel in 2024 achieved the following:

• 67% could swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m
• 60% could use a range of strokes effectively
• 52% Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations
